Chamamé! Presenting the Alejandro Brittes Band
Camerata Del Sol is thrilled to kick off our 2024-2025 season with a dynamic concert featuring internationally acclaimed Chamamé artist Alejandro Brittes.
Alejandro Brittes, hailed by The Boston Globe as a "premier exponent of Chamamé," brings his unique blend of Baroque music and the indigenous Guaraní tradition to Las Cruces. A former Mid Atlantic Iber Exchange artist and celebrated performer at the Library of Congress, Brittes explores the roots of Chamamé, a rhythm that connects music, dance, and the spiritual world of northeast Argentina and Argentine Mesopotamia. His innovative performances have been praised globally, and his work has been recognized by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The upcoming concert will feature pieces from his latest project, "(L)Este" album, features original compositions for Baroque ensemble, highlighting the legacy of Chamamé within the context of South American Jesuit missions.
Joining Brittes on stage will be several of Camerata Del Sol’s core members, including Daniel Vega-Albela, the Artistic Director and founder of Camerata Del Sol, and James Carney, who serves as the principal cellist of both Camerata Del Sol and the El Paso Symphony Orchestra.
Though tickets are free, we suggest a donation of $10 to support Camerata Del Sol’s educational outreach and future performances. Click the "donate" button on the right hand side of the page to make a contribution, and thank you for supporting live, affordable music on the border!
